Ms. Nicole A. Carkner is the Executive Director of the Quad City Health Initiative which she has led since 2001. As Executive Director, Ms. Carkner develops and facilitates cross-sector collaborative partnerships to create a healthier community in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Formerly, Ms. Carkner was a health care management consultant. Her expertise includes strategic planning, community health assessments, and project leadership. Ms. Carkner has served on the Advisory Council of the Association for Community Health Improvement. Ms. Carkner holds a M.B.A. in Health Care Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA and an A.B. with majors in Biology and Government from Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. Ms. Carkner currently resides in Bettendorf, IA with her husband and son and enjoys traveling, reading and cooking.

Dr. Kristin Humphries has served on the QCHI Board since 2019. He’s been Superintendent of the East Moline School District since 2010. He is active in several local organizations including the Two Rivers YMCA as the President of the Board of Directors, is a member of the Board of Directors for Community Health Care, as well as the Education Council for the United Way Quad Cities, and serves on the Governing Board for the American Association of School Administrators. Dr. Humphries champions causes around equity for children and families in Illinois and the Quad Cities region. He is a graduate of Davenport West High School, the University of Northern Iowa, Western Illinois University, Iowa State University and received his doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University. Kristin has been married to his wife Amy for 30 years and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys running with his two dogs, reading, watching baseball, and spending time with family.

Cheryl True, MD, has been on the QCHI Board since 2017. She served as Board Chair from January 2022-December 2024. She is board certified in Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. A Quad Cities native, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Augustana College, a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Iowa, graduated from the Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program, and is a Fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She owns True Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, and serves as a Civil Surgeon at the Rock Island County Health Department. She also enjoys being a preceptor for students at St. Ambrose University, and residents at the Genesis Family Medicine Residency Program. In addition to QCHI, she is involved with various boards and coalitions including Augustana College Board of Trustees, Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ Governing Board of Trustees, Scott County Medical Society Executive Committee, and is a stakeholder for the Food Rescue Partnership and the QC Behavioral Health Coalition. She leads a local Walk with a Doc chapter, founded Heartland Rooted (part of PCRMs Building Healthy Communities network), and is active within the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She lives in Davenport with her husband and their multi species household of pets. She is an avid cyclist, and loves cooking plant-based meals.
